AfriLabs ACDR & AFRICONNECT platform design
Civic ecosystem · Pan-African network

AFRILABS: ACDR & AFRICONNECT

Unified platform for startup discovery, investor engagement, and ecosystem reporting across two interconnected platforms: AfriConnect and ACDR.

ProblemAfriLabs needed a unified platform for startup discovery, investor engagement, and ecosystem reporting across ACDR and AFRICONNECT.
DecisionShared design system across both platforms with three distinct role-based experiences: founders, investors, and admins.
Outcome: unified ecosystem visibility across pan-African networkRead case study
JUDIC AI legal platform design
Legaltech · AI · Three user roles

JUDIC AI

AI-powered judicial documentation platform, reducing courtroom administrative burden so judges and court staff can focus on decisions, not paperwork.

ProblemCourtroom documentation was manual, time-consuming, and error-prone. Judicial officers spent excessive time on administrative tasks that diverted attention from case outcomes.
DecisionRole-aware IA for judges, registrars, and court staff. AI transcription with confidence indicators and inline correction so users felt in control of AI output, not dependent on it.
Outcome: 3× faster task completion in follow-up testing with practitionersRead case study
Slate.ng multi-device school system design
EdTech · Multi-device school system

Slate.ng Ecosystem

Unified school management system working across admin (desktop), teaching (tablet), check-in (kiosk), and parental engagement (mobile).

ProblemSchools needed a unified management system working across four device types with different interaction models and user roles.
DecisionUnified component library adapting per device context. Kiosk flows reduced to single-action tasks; admin views surfaced bulk operations unavailable elsewhere.
Outcome: 8% increase in user engagement post-redesignRead case study
BM Pro Finance multi-currency platform design
Fintech · Multi-currency · International

BM Pro Finance

International users managing multi-currency transactions without anxiety around fees, conversion rates, or failed states.

ProblemInternational users needed to manage multi-currency transactions without anxiety around fees, conversion rates, or failed states.
DecisionMoved fee visibility earlier in the flow. Currency state as first-class UI element. Role-differentiated admin views for compliance vs. end users.
Outcome: clearer multi-currency UX with compliance-ready flowsRead case study
IPPIS Nigeria government payroll validation platform
Government · Enterprise data

IPPIS Nigeria (EDVMS)

Step-by-step validation with inline error detection, bulk operations, and audit trail UI, reducing cognitive load for HR officers at civil-servant scale.

ProblemHR officers needed to validate large datasets of employee records where errors affected salary disbursements for thousands of civil servants.
DecisionStep-by-step validation with inline error detection, bulk operation support, and audit trail UI, reducing cognitive load at scale.
Outcome: 40% reduction in data validation processing timeRead case study
LACON legal aid platform interface
Civic tech · Legal aid · Accessibility

LACON Application

Plain-language eligibility questionnaire and reassuring case status UI for citizens discovering legal aid for the first time.

ProblemCitizens in legal distress had no clear, accessible way to discover eligibility, find a provider, and track case progress.
DecisionPlain-language eligibility questionnaire. Case status as a prominent, reassuring UI pattern. Admin separating operational visibility from citizen data.
Outcome: accessible legal aid discovery for first-time usersRead case study

How I work

From ambiguity to accountable design.

I treat design as a decision-making discipline. Research, mapping, prototyping, systems, and validation exist to reduce uncertainty before teams invest engineering time.

Start with the real problem.

I separate the user problem from the assumed solution through interviews, journey review, product analytics, and stakeholder alignment.

Define what success means.

Before interface work, I document user goals, business constraints, roles, platform requirements, and the signals that will prove the solution worked.

Make the system navigable.

Information architecture, task flows, permissions, empty states, error states, and recovery paths are designed as one connected product system.

Design with reusable logic.

UI decisions become components, variants, tokens, and interaction rules so the product can scale beyond the first release.

Close the gap between Figma and code.

Specs, responsive behaviour, accessibility annotations, and QA notes reduce the design-to-engineering gap and minimise surprises after handoff.

What I bring to product teams

Systems thinking, shipped at scale.

For product teams, the portfolio needs to show judgment: how problems are framed, how complexity is structured, and how design holds up across engineering, accessibility, and real-world use.

01

Multi-platform product design

Web, mobile, admin portals, tablet, and POS kiosk, designed simultaneously on the same product. Systems built to work across device types and user roles.

02

Trust-critical workflows

Fintech payments, legal flows, civic data, AI output. I design for states where a confusing interaction breaks user confidence. Error states and recovery are part of the first draft.

03

Design systems & handoff

Component libraries, token architectures, and state documentation so engineering teams can move without constant design intervention. Handoff-ready means complete, not just pretty.

Systems thinking

I design systems, not screens.

Senior design work is not only visual polish. It is the ability to create durable product language: tokens, components, patterns, states, accessibility rules, and team rituals that keep quality high as the product grows.

T

Token architecture

Color, spacing, radius, type, shadows, and motion values structured so product teams can scale consistently across screens and platforms.

Component strategy

Reusable buttons, cards, forms, tables, modals, navigation, empty states, and page patterns with clear usage rules.

State coverage

No state is an afterthought. Critical products need clear defaults, focus, loading, empty, success, pending, failed, and recovery paths.

"Benjamin brought clarity to a product space that had confused two previous designers. He mapped every user role, every edge case, and delivered a system our engineers could actually build from. No back-and-forth needed."
Product Manager, JUDIC AILegaltech · AI platform
"Working with Benjamin on the IPPIS platform was different from working with most designers. He understood the operational stakes immediately and designed for failure modes we hadn't even articulated yet."

About the designer

I think in systems, build for outcomes.

I'm Benjamin J. Benjamin a Product and UI/UX Designer with 4+ years of experience designing multi-platform digital systems. I've shipped 42+ real projects across web, mobile, admin portals, and kiosk interfaces.

My approach is systems-first. Before Figma opens, I map the problem, the user roles, the data flows, and the edge cases. This comes from an engineering background: B.Eng. Civil Engineering, which trained me to design for failure modes and scale from the start.

The projects in this portfolio are based in Nigeria, but the design challenges are universal. IPPIS processes payroll records for over 1 million federal civil servants, equivalent in operational scale to the UK's HMRC or large national payroll systems.LACON is a federally mandated legal aid network operating across 36 states. JUDIC AI is an AI-powered judicial documentation platform for judges, court staff, and legal professionals. The contexts differ; the problems of trust, access, scale, and complexity are the same everywhere.

Systems before screensBefore a component is drawn, I map the product: user roles, task flows, permissions, edge cases, and failure states. This is where senior design actually happens.
Engineering-aware designGood handoff isn't beautiful Figma. It's complete. I document states, behaviour, responsiveness, and accessibility so engineers don't have to guess.
Clarity over decorationEvery visual decision should reduce friction, explain state, or make the next action easier. Aesthetics are earned through function, not applied on top of it.
Outcomes, not deliverablesThe measure of good design isn't a polished prototype. It's whether the product solves the problem it was built for, at scale, in the hands of real users.
